What Does ‘BAME’ Mean?

Many people in our school community identify as ‘Black, Asian and Minority Ethic’. ‘BAME’ is an ‘umbrella term’, but at Acorns we see everybody as individuals and prefer not to use labels in our day-to-day work. It is important, however, that this group of people are recognised as bringing richness and diversity to our school and local community. This group often also face additional challenges, which may not always be apparent. We need to let everyone know that they are supported, cared for and safe. At our school, we have always had an inclusive culture, respecting, valuing, and celebrating all cultures and backgrounds.
